Hydrodesulphurization case study

Customer objective
Target sulphur content diesel: 10 ppm (ULSD)

  • Catalyst testing under (most) ideal conditions
    • Isothermal conditions
    • Plug flow conditions
    • No catalyst bypassing
    • Limited pressure drop
  • Fully automated screening equipment ensures controlled reproducibleprocess conditions
  • Gas liquid separation / stripping for each individual reactor

Our approach
Testing conditions:

  • 16 reactors filled with reference catalyst (extrudate 1.6 mm)
  • Catalysts bed length 30 cm
  • Feed ~ 2% sulphur content
  • Hydrogen feed ratio: 250 Nl/kg
  • Diesel flow Low LHSV
  • Pressure 40 bar
  • 2 weeks of continuous testing

A satisfied customer

  • Good control of flows, pressure and temperature.
  • Bandwidth T required is 4 °C (SD = 1 °C).
  • Liquid yields within 100% ± 2.5%.
  • Reproducible sulphur conversion.
  • Standard deviation sulphur levels 1 ppm.
  • HDS catalysts can be screened accurately even on 2 ppm S (2 - 3 °C) differences.
  • Reduction of waste and replace toxic metals or metal oxides incurrent catalysts.

Accurate condition control
