Rahu Catalytics and Avantium Technologies enter into collaboration

Amsterdam, The Netherlands - 24 April 2007

RahuCat and Avantium are delighted to announce the signing of a long term partnership. The collaboration is aimed at screening Rahu's catalyst systems in oxidation and peroxidation reaction chemistry development.

For this purpose RahuCat will make its metal catalysts available as part of Avantium's extensive library of catalyst solutions. Avantium will use its high-speed parallel batch and fixed bed catalyst test platforms to screen applications for these catalyst systems.

Paul Smith, Chief Executive Officer, says: "Our deal with Avantium is an important step in RahuCat's commercial development, and broadens dramatically our access to the important chemical synthesis market. Both Avantium and RahuCat share a common culture driven by customer focus and we look forward to building on Avantium's excellent reputation in this complex market".

Dr. Pieter Imhof, VP Business Development, welcomed the deal, adding "RahuCat offers a significant extension to our ability to offer novel, cost effective oxidation chemistry to our client base. Its strong IP platform, combined with Avantium's know-how is likely to lead to significant benefits for our customers".

About High-Throughput Technology:

High-throughput technology refers to the technology that is being used to perform high-speed, parallel experiments at a very small scale. The technology is based upon the principles of miniaturization, automation and parallelization. The advantage of high-throughput technology is that it can increase the productivity and speed of research and development and allow scientists to explore a vast range of experimental conditions. Statistical techniques are applied to direct the experimental program into the most promising areas and to extract knowledge from the data that can be used to optimize industrial processes.

About Rahu Catalytics:

Rahu Catalytics Limited is a catalyst design house serving industrial markets for oxidation and per-oxidation. RahuCat was established as a spin-out from Unilever Vlaardingen R&D in 2006. The company seeks new applications for catalysts already developed for use in Home & Personal Care products. The applications are in non-competing industries which have similar technical problems but which have had little historical R&D spend.

The company commercializes catalysts originally developed by Unilever R&D for detergents and cleaning products. RahuCat targets applications such as bleaching of cotton and poly cotton textiles, and paper pulp, waste water treatment, industrial cleaning, fine chemical synthesis and polymerisation in coating and ink markets. Rahu's first product, Dragon A350 (Dragon's Blood) was commercialized in early 2007 in parallel with new manufacturing agreements and new product registration. The company's IP portfolio has also been dramatically expanded to accommodate new chemistry and processes in support of market growth. For more information, please visit www.rahucat.com
