Invitation to Amsterdam Inventor Award 2008

Amsterdam, The Netherlands - 17 June 2008

On Tuesday June 24, 2008 the municipality of Amsterdam presents for the first time the Amsterdam Inventor Award honoring the most prominent invention of 2007. This event is in initiative of Avantium to highlight the innovations of a range of leading R&D groups that are based in the Amsterdam area.

There are a large number of R&D companies and knowledge centers in Amsterdam. In these organizations strong teams of scientists are continuously working on innovation within their industrial research fields.

The municipality of Amsterdam organizes The Amsterdam Inventor Dinner jointly with technology company Avantium to place the scientist in the spotlights and to create awareness of the unique innovative strengths of the city of Amsterdam. The nominees for the award will be announced on Friday June 20, 2008.

Amsterdam has a strong tradition in the area of developing and applying knowledge and innovation. It is a European knowledge center because of its strategic location, good infrastructure, the presence of international companies and the large number of highly educated people and internationally renowned universities.

The participants will present their most amazing discoveries during the Inventor Dinner 2008. Participating organizations are Shell, AMT, Albemarle, Kiadis, TomTom, Avantium, Academic Medical Centre Amsterdam, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands Cancer Institute, VU University Amsterdam, VU University medical centre and Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter.

The committee of judges are Prof. Dr. Drenth, former rector magnificus VU University and former president of Allea and KNAW, Jan Post, former president of The Amsterdam Chamber of Commerce and executive at Philips Electronics in the The Netherlands and Dinko Valerio, founder and former president of Crucell, today a partner at Aescap Venture Capital.
