Summary: Working in an environment where high-throughput experimentation is the standard rather than the exception for catalyst development challenges, we are well familiar with the challenges that come with a high data density. This being said, the use of modeling methods, whether “classical” or “modern” can provide new insights and can simplify the interpretation of otherwise difficult to understand large data sets.

Carlo Angelici will present “Oxidative Synthesis of FDCA and Corresponding Esters from C5-Sugars-Derived Chemicals” on the 21.08.2019 at 11:20 in the Platform Chemicals from Biomass

Summary: In this study, different conversion technologies were investigated to functionalize furfural (deriving from dehydration of C5-sugars).  A large number of experiments were performed to screen catalytic systems and different experimental conditions, taking advantage of the expertise of Avantium in high throughput catalytic testing.

Layla Filiciotto will present a poster “Towards a bio-circular economy: Catalysis for humins valorization”

Summary: Catalysis as a broad concept can become an ally to humins valorisation, as well as the understanding of their nature and structure. In fact, herein we propose the use of catalysis as a basis for structural identification of humins by means of catalytic (transfer) hydrogenolysis and analysis of decomposition products
