Amsterdam, March 3rd, 2014 – Abengoa and Avantium announce that they have concluded another successful research collaboration for the production of higher value products from ethanol. The research program entailed ranking, developing and screening of catalysts and conditions to optimize Abengoa’s process. The work took place at the laboratory facilities of Avantium in Amsterdam.

“The research collaboration with Avantium enabled Abengoa to evaluate process optimization alternatives and routes to new products in a much faster way than previously possible using conventional research methods. This is important for us because we aim to establish a leadership position in the bioenergy industry. It is our mission and ultimate goal to achieve this with the development of manufacturing technologies and the implementation of the best and most efficient operating practices. Avantium’s flexibility and knowledgeable staff helped us achieve these challenging objectives.”, commented Javier Garoz Neira, CEO of bioenergy business of Abengoa.

“We are proud that Abengoa has entered into a new collaboration with Avantium”, commented Tom van Aken, CEO at Avantium. These research collaborations provided Abengoa with smart and fast catalyst testing solutions based on Avantium’s unique technology, knowledge and experienced staff. The successful and accurate results of the multiple research programs were again delivered in record time achieving the challenging objectives and deadlines.
