Geleen, the Netherlands – On Monday November 9th, a large fire destroyed the Wim Bosman Logistics on the Chemelot Industrial park. Avantium uses services of Wim Bosman Logistics and the logistics centre is located approximately 200 meters from the Avantium pilot plant. Nobody on the site got injured.

Around 12.00hrs the alarm of the nearby Chemelot campus, where the Avantium pilot plant is located, was activated. All office buildings switched off their ventilation systems and all people moved to so called RDRs (reasonably sealed rooms). Due to the heavy black smoke and unfavorable wind direction the ventilation system of the Avantium pilot plant production area was also switched off by its staff.

Around 12.30hrs, after consultation of the duty officer and fire department, the remaining Avantium employees in the pilot plant evacuated wearing masks. The afternoon shift and night shift were cancelled.

Around 17.00hrs the campus was declared save. All campus buildings and pipe racks were inspected immediately after. No damage was observed. The ventilation system of the Avantium pilot plant was restarted to refresh the air in the production area.

On Tuesday, the Avantium morning shift was able to restart the pilot plant smoothly and it resumed operations right away. No damage of the Avantium equipment was observed. The pilot plant is fully operational again.
